This would have likely been a seperate boss entirely, according to the 2014 trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jDZfREYppk). The second form of the Devil was to be a Stage in which the players where in the Devil's Hands, but instead that stage was removed and was used to make the Death Icon for the Devil's Final Phase.
