Cuphead in Carnival Chaos: A Cuphead Novel (or simply Cuphead in Carnival Chaos) is a novel by StudioMDHR and Ron Bates, the first novel in the Cuphead novel series. It was published on March 3, 2020.

Plot synopsis

The novel takes place on Elder Kettle's birthday, with Cuphead and his brother Mugman looking for the perfect gift to accompany a surprise party. Ms. Chalice later joins the brothers after helping them escape from their school, and the trio settles on a watch as the central birthday gift. However, there is a nearby carnival which set up shop on that same day, and the friends inevitably get distracted by it. They encounter a variety of foes from the game, and they have to get out alive and intact with the watch in order to not ruin Elder Kettle's special day.

  • The novel was initially titled Cuphead: Middle Grade Novel #1.
  • During Chapter 5 ("A Fork in the Road"), one can see the school that Cuphead and Mugman attend is an elementary school. Combining this with Evan Skolnick's comment on Cuphead's age, that means that Cuphead is likely at least ten years old.
