Battle

ExpressIcon1.png

Blind Specter attacks by banging their palms on the ground which makes eyes pop out five times, bounce on the ground, and damage the player(s). The eyes can be destroyed. In Simple Mode, they stay idle for a longer time each time they stops spawning eyes and the eyes has less gravity and shoot up much higher. In Expert Mode, they spawn seven eyes, they bounce higher much with more gravity. Hitpoints = 3.5/3.5/3.5

Meanwhile, flying Pumpkins will drop pink ingots on the platform edges to move it closer to Blind Specter, making it easier to be hit by them. These ingots can be parried. In Simple Mode, the Pumpkins never appear. In Expert Mode, they fly faster. Hitpoints = 4/4

After enough damage is taken, Blind Specter screams in pain and retreats inside the train. Hitpoints = 400/425/425

Trivia

  • Blind Specter is the only combatant from Phantom Express that appears in the good ending.
  • Blind Specter is the only Phantom Express character without a rail theme. However, as it resides in the upper level of the train's caboose, it is possible that they are the Brakeman of the Phantom Express, or a passenger.

Inspirations and similarities

  • Blind Specter was inspired by Pan's Labyrinth's Pale Man, and their blue ghostly form is based off the ghosts in the 1937 Disney cartoon Lonesome Ghosts.[1]
  • Blind Specter may be based off the tenome.
  • Blind Specter's general appearance also bears a striking resemblance to Agent Wendy Pleakley, an alien character from Disney's Lilo & Stitch, as they both have wide mouths, a single eye (though the Specter has one for each hand rather than in the socket) skinny bodies and arms, and a small "antennae" on the top of their heads.
  • Blind Specter is inspired by a ghost in the grave from Swing You Sinners!, a 1930s short that is referenced multiple times throughout the game.
  • The Concept of the Blind Specter having eyes in his hands may be inspired by the saying of blind people seeing with their hands.
