Horace Radiche

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Horace Radiche is an optional, minor boss in Cuphead. He is a part of The Root Pack, located in the Botanic Panic! level of Inkwell Isle One. The Radish is angered if the player chooses not to attack Ollie Bulb, who comes to defend the group after Ollie realized you do not want to hurt him and returning underground.

After he is spawned, the player's progress on the death screen will be replaced with a question mark, indicating this is a secret path.

Description

Appearance

He is a sentient radish with green eyes, triangular sharp teeth, a purple nose and eyebrows, and brown arms. Horace is much smaller than the Root Pack, being roughly the size of Cuphead and Mugman.

Personality

Horace Radiche is a little fella with a lot to prove.[1] He seems to be easily agitated and quite aggressive, given his expression throughout most of the fight.

Battle

Horace Radiche has one attack. Immediately after popping out of the ground, he spins across the ground like a tornado while Chauncey Chantenay attacks as usual. In Expert Mode, Horace has a higher top speed and acceleration, he also jumps out quicker. Since Ollie Bulb does not appear for you to spare him in Simple Mode, Horace does not appear in Simple Mode either.

When defeated, he sits on the ground with a dazed expression before he pops apart into slices (presumably by the leaves slicing him).

Trivia

  • Horace’s name is an obvious pun on the word ”Horseradish“.
  • Horace is the only enemy in Botanic Panic! that comes out of the ground completely.
  • Horace, unlike most unused content, was fully made and ready to add into the game[1]. It was cut due to other isles didn't have a boss with a secret phase ready yet, second closest to be ready was Sally Stageplay as most of her secret phase content only had a few animations and sound effects missing.
    • In legacy and version 1.1.X, Ollie would have look around two more times if you do not attack him, a remnant of secret phase existing like the cupid decoration in the first phase of Sally. This also explains why attacking Ollie after the fourth back and forth in the current version does not make him cry, this is an optimization as it generates cards for EXes.
